What is Underline Font?
Want a clean line sitting under your text without touching a bold button or a stylesheet? Underline Font does it by appending Unicode’s combining character U+0332, the Combining Low Line, after each non-space character. The mark renders a low line directly beneath the glyph it follows, so r̲e̲a̲d̲ t̲h̲i̲s̲ arrives underlined as genuine characters — not formatting that disappears when copied.
Below The Glyph, Not Through It
The technique mirrors strikethrough exactly, with one key difference in placement. Strikethrough’s U+0336 cuts across the middle of a letter to mean deleted; this style’s U+0332 sits underneath, which the eye reads as a link or emphasis instead. Same combining-mark mechanism, opposite signal — one cancels text, the other quietly draws attention to it.
The Descender Quirk
Letters with tails that drop below the baseline — g, y, p, j — can crowd the low line on certain fonts, occasionally almost touching it. This is a normal consequence of where descenders fall relative to the underline mark and varies by typeface. It stays perfectly legible; the line just sits tighter against those specific letters than against rounder ones.
Links, Hashtags And Retro Vibes
An underline reads as something worth clicking, so it works for link-style emphasis, underlined hashtags, and headers that need weight without going bold. It also nails a retro forum or BBS aesthetic where plain underlined text once meant importance. Because the line is built into the characters, v̲i̲s̲i̲t̲ p̲r̲o̲f̲i̲l̲e̲ keeps its underscore through every copy and paste.
